The Big Ten media named Peter Jok to the preseason All-Big Ten team

Iowa basketball is not entering the 2016 season with high expectations. Coming off back-to-back 22-win seasons, Iowa lost four starters from 2015 and few people expect them to reach the same heights they did in 2016.

Although, star guard Peter Jok became one of the better players in the Big Ten at the end of last season, earning him a spot on the All-Big Ten Second Team. Recognition of Jok’s stellar play as a junior, and his potential in 2016 as the team’s leader, continues. A panel of conference media members named Jok to the preseason All-Big Ten team.

Jok averaged 16.1 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game, while shooting 40.2 percent from three last season. He’ll now take over as the team’s go-to scorer and the undoubted leader of the Hawkeyes.

The media named a total of ten players to the preseason All-Big Ten team. The other nine players named along with Peter Jok include: Malcolm Hill, Illinois; James Blackmon Jr, Indiana; Thomas Bryant, Indiana; Melo Trimble, Maryland; Derrick Walton Jr, Michigan; Caleb Swanigan, Purdue; Ethan Happ, Wisconsin; Nigel Hayes, Wisconsin; Bronson Koenig, Wisconsin.

Nigel Hayes was the only unanimous selection. Hayes was also named the preseason Big Ten Player of the Year.

The senior forward is coming off a season in which he posted 15.7 points, 5.8 rebounds and 1.1 steals per game. He finished last season being named to the All-Big Ten First Team, despite only shooting 36.8 percent from the field.

Peter Jok and senior forward Dale Jones will represent the Iowa Hawkeyes this Thursday in Washington D.C. for Big Ten Media Day.
