Freshmen Maurice Creek and Christian Watford finished with 17 points each Saturday, and Indiana beat Northwestern State, 90-72. Creek scored in double figures for the sixth time in as many games, with 13 of his points coming in the first half in front of 11,128 at Assembly Hall. Indiana (3-3) led 45-35 at halftime, and the Demons (2-2), who never led in the game, didn't threaten seriously in the second half of a game that featured a combined 41 turnovers. The Hoosiers, who will play host to No. 25 Maryland in the ACC/Big 10 Challenge on Tuesday, forced 23 turnovers, 13 of which came on steals. Indiana committed 18 turnovers, which led to 23 of Northwestern State's points. Another freshman, Derek Elston, scored 12 points for Indiana and senior guard Devan Dumes added 11. Junior guard Jeremiah Rivers added 10 assists. Guard Devon Baker led Northwestern State with 14 points and forward Will Pratt added 10. Indiana, which shot 48.1 percent from the floor, shot 77.3 percent from the free-throw line and 37.5 percent from 3-point range. The Hoosiers entered the game shooting 59.2 percent free throws. The Hoosiers held the Demons to 40.4 percent shooting, and kept the Demons from cutting deep into the lead with a balanced second half. The Hoosiers led 59-50 with 10:19 remaining, but scored the next eight points to keep the lead in double digits the rest of the way.
