Starting guard Abdul Gaddy will miss the rest of the regular season for No. 23 Washington after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.

Gaddy suffered the injury in practice on Tuesday when he planted on a drive to the basket. The school announced Wednesday that Gaddy will miss the remainder of his sophomore season.

After a disappointing freshman season, Gaddy had flourished early in his sophomore campaign. Gaddy had started all 13 games for Washington (10-3) and averaged 8.5 points and 3.8 assists. He was shooting above 40 percent from 3-point range.

Washington coach Lorenzo Romar says the injury is a big blow for Gaddy and a blow for the team.
