VALPARAISO, Ind. (AP) Juwan Howard Jr. hit a 3-pointer with 5.7 seconds left on Friday night to give Detroit a 59-57 win at Valparaiso.

Detroit (11-14, 4-6 Horizon League) trailed 57-56 and was inbounding from under its own basket with 8 seconds left when Valparaiso's Keith Carter appeared to have a beat on the pass. He leaped and nearly intercepted it in the Detroit backcourt, but Howard jumped in front of him to grab the ball out of the air.

With Carter out of position, Howard took one quick dribble to the 3-point line and launched the game winner.

Valparaiso (14-11, 6-4) had just gone ahead 57-56 with 34 seconds left when LaVonte Dority collapsed the defense and found on open Alec Peters on the left baseline for the basket.
