Houston 78, Texas Southern 75

TaShawn Thomas had 23 points, nine rebounds and three blocks, and Joseph Young scored seven of his 21 points in overtime as Houston held off Texas Southern 78-75 on Saturday night.

The Cougars (7-2) quickly opened a six-point lead in overtime on back-to-back three-point plays by Young and Thomas. A young jumper made the score 74-69 with 1:23 remaining, and Houston protected the lead at the free-throw line.

Omar Strong had 29 points and made eight 3-pointers for the Tigers (1-8).

J.J. Thompson had 10 points and six assists for Houston, which overcome a nine-point deficit in the final 3:49 of regulation to force overtime. Danuel House's 3-pointer with nine seconds to play tied the score at 66-all.
