Holy Cross holds off Old Dominion 46-45

Holy Cross' Cullen Hamilton made the game-winning free throw with 9 seconds left in a 46-45 victory over Old Dominion in the opener for both teams on Saturday night in the Liberty Tax Classic.

Hamilton and Justin Burrell scored 15 points apiece for the Crusaders.

The Monarchs tied the game at 45 with 12 seconds left on a driving basket by Dimitri Batten.

Hamilton was fouled and hit the first one, but he missed the second. ODU's Keenan Palmore grabbed the rebound, but Old Dominion couldn't get a shot off before time expired.

The Crusaders led 22-18 at halftime and by as many as eight, 30-22 with 15:03 left in the game. The game was tied seven times with four lead changes.

DeShawn Painter led the Monarchs with 12 points. Old dominion held a 43-30 rebound advantage, but it committed 17 turnovers.
