Mississippi basketball coach Andy Kennedy says sophomore forward Murphy Holloway is leaving the team for personal reasons.

Holloway, a 6-7 forward from Irmo, S.C., said Friday that he was returning to South Carolina where he has a daughter and family.

Holloway averaged 10.1 points and 7.6 rebounds per game last season, starting 30 of 34 games for the Rebels. He also blocked 24 shots and was the Rebels' most consistent post player.

Murphy ranked fifth in the SEC this season in rebounding and eighth in steals (1.5). He finished sixth among league players with eight double-doubles.

As a freshman, Holloway played in all 31 games and ranked 13th among SEC players in rebounding. He averaged 6.6 boards, 8.4 points, 0.9 assists and 1.2 steals per game.
