Hofstra holds on for 65-60 win over Northeastern

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (AP) Rokas Gustys scored 17 points, hauled in 16 rebounds and hit a key free throw with seven seconds left to help Hofstra hold off Northeastern for a 65-60 win Sunday.

Denton Koon contributed 19 points, Juan'ya Green had 13 points and Ameen Tanksley 12 for Hofstra (20-8, 12-4 Colonial). The Pride got 18 of 23 from the free-throw line to Northeastern's 2 for 4 to pick up their fourth straight win.

Hofstra took the lead for good during a 17-3 run sparked by a dunk from Gustys that made it 26-16 with 4:04 left before the break.

Northeastern (15-14, 7-9) chipped away in the second half, using a 6-2 spurt to trail 62-60 with 33 seconds left. Desure Buie stretched it back to four with a pair of free throws and then Gustys put it out of reach with a final foul shot.

Quincy Ford and David Walker led Northeastern with 15 points each.
