High Point tops Longwood 89-78 in Big South quarters

BUIES CREEK, N.C. (AP) Miles Bowman Jr. and Haiishen McIntyre scored 19 points apiece and top-seeded High Point defeated Longwood 89-78 on Friday in the quarterfinals of the Big South Conference tournament.

Austin White and Anthony Lindauer added 14 points each for the Panthers (21-9), who face the Liberty-UNC Ashville winner in Saturday's first semifinal.

High Point raced to a 19-2 lead five minutes into the game but an 11-0 run by eighth-seeded Longwood late in the first half made it 38-33 at the break.

Two free throws by Shaquille Johnson, who finished with 28 points, tied the game at 51 with 12:10 to play and a 3-point play by Kanayo Obi-Rapu gave the Lancers (10-23) their first lead, 54-53 at the 11-minute mark.

The Panthers quickly recovered and had the lead back to 10 with 5:24 to play after two free throws by White. High Point made 22 of 27 free throws in the second half.

Lotanna Nwogbo added 24 points and 12 rebounds for Longwood.
