Hield first 2-time AP Big 12 Player of Year; Self top coach

Oklahoma senior Buddy Hield has become the first player in the 20-season history of the Big 12 to win The Associated Press player of the year award twice.

Hield also won the honor last year.

Bill Self is the AP Coach of the Year for the fifth time overall, and the fourth coach to win the award in consecutive years. The No. 1 Jayhawks won their 12th consecutive Big 12 regular-season title.

In the yearly AP awards announced Monday, Perry Ellis of Kansas and Georges Niang of Iowa State joined Hield as first-team picks for the second year in a row. Iowa State junior Monte Morris and Texas junior Isaiah Taylor rounded out the All-Big 12 first team.
