Hampton tops Florida A&M 78-63

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) Quinton Chievous scored 18 points on 7-of-11 shooting and Hampton topped Florida A&M 78-63 on Monday.

Hampton (8-8, 4-0 Mid-Eastern) used a 7-2 spurt early to open a 14-6 lead, then Florida A&M went scoreless for 5:23 during which the Rattlers missed four shots and turned it over five times. Hampton led 42-28 at the half.

The lead stretched beyond 20 with 14:25 left on Reginald Johnson's layup at 58-37 and Hampton cruised to the win.

Johnson finished with 15 points and a career-high six steals. Dwight Meikle added 12 points and seven rebounds as Hampton shot 49 percent from the floor, had 17 team assists, 13 steals and six blocked shots.

Florida A&M (0-16, 0-3) was paced by Jorge Rosa's 16 points while Craig Bowman had 12 and Jermaine Ruttley added 10.

The Rattlers 17-game losing streak is a school record and the longest active streak in Division I.
