Gray, Griffin lead NAIA Loyola (LA) past Southern, 69-64

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) Jalen Gray scored 19 points, Johnny Griffin Jr. had a double-double and NAIA Loyola beat Southern 69-64 on Saturday.

Griffin made 5 of 6 from the field, 5-of-7 free throws and finished with 15 points, 18 rebounds and four assists. Nate Pierre added 12 points and seven rebounds for the Wolfpack. The game served as an exhibition for Loyola.

Griffin had a dunk and then Gray scored nine in a row to cap an 11-0 run that gave the Wolfpack a 57-54 lead, their first of the second half, with 7:02 to play. Southern's Jared Sam made 1 of 2 free throws to make it 60-all with 3:15 remaining, but Gray assisted Griffin on a layup and then, after the Jaguars missed a 3, hit a jumper to give the Wolfpack a four-point lead.

Sam led Southern (3-5) with 18 points and eight rebounds. The Jaguars made just two of their last 10 shots, going 0-for-5 on 3-pointers.
