TCU is ranked in the AP Top 25 for the first time since 1998-99.
The No. 25 Horned Frogs should have little trouble extending the best unbeaten start in school history to 12 games Monday night when they host the nation's lowest-scoring team, Grambling State.
TCU (11-0) has surpassed the 9-0 start by the 1997-98 team as the best in school history. That season marked the Horned Frogs' last NCAA tournament appearance.
Breaking that drought would be impressive since TCU went 20-43 the previous two seasons in Trent Johnson's first two as coach. The Horned Frogs are gaining confidence after topping last season's nine-win campaign.
''We've got a long ways to go,'' Johnson said. ''But I am pleased in my own way.''
The turnaround is sweet for senior guard Kyan Anderson, a Fort Worth native who has endured plenty of misery playing for his hometown school. Anderson moved into the top 10 on the school's career scoring list with 1,324 after he scored 16 and had a career-high nine assists in an 88-57 win over UTSA on Saturday.
''I don't want to say he's like me, or an extension of me, but I think the most important thing to Kyan right now is winning ... he didn't say anything about (top 10),'' Johnson said. ''Bottom line is we've lost enough games, I'm talking about me and Kyan in two years, for a lifetime, so I think he wants to win.''
The Horned Frogs rank second in the Big 12 in blocks with 6.5 per game. They are led in that department by Chris Washburn, who has 19 blocks and is the son of the former North Carolina State star who has the same name.
The latest TCU player to get involved in rejecting opponents was Brandon Parrish, who blocked a career-high five shots Saturday to go with 18 points.
"I thought this was as good of game as he has played defensively," Johnson said. "He took on that challenge."
Monday shouldn't be much of a challenge since TCU is 11-0 against Grambling State, winning 98-75 last season behind Anderson's 27 points.
The Tigers (2-7) average 46.0 points, and are the nation's second-worst shooting team at 33.3 percent. A'Torri Shine is the only Tiger averaging double digits in points at 12.3, and he scored 16 on 4-of-15 shooting last season versus the Frogs.
Grambling State fell to 0-7 on the road with Wednesday's 86-38 loss at then-No. 16 Washington in which they trailed 45-13 at halftime.
The Tigers have lost their last four games against ranked foes by an average of 50.0 points.
