Gary Payton II dunks over one of the nation's top shot blockers
Oregon State picked up a huge win on Sunday night at home, knocking off rival Oregon, 70-57, to open Pac-12 play.
One of the critical plays for the Beavers happened with 13:22 remaining in the second half. The Beavers were leading by nine when Stephen Thompson Jr. beat the Oregon press and found a cutting Gary Payton II. The son of "The Glove" rose up and posterized Oregon's 6-foot-11 shot-blocker Chris Boucher. Boucher is fourth in the nation in blocked shots at 3.3 blocks per game.
The highlight-reel dunk put the Beavers up 11. They would lead by double figures for the rest of the game.
Tres Tinkle, son of Oregon State head coach Wayne Tinkle, scored a game-high 19 points. Payton added 12 points, six rebounds and six assists. Boucher led the Ducks with 14 points and seven boards.
The Beavers and Ducks meet again on Feb. 20 in Eugene.
