Furman names Bob Richey its next men's basketball coach

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) Bob Richey has been named Furman's new men's basketball coach.

Paladins athletic director Mike Buddie announced the move Friday.

Richey has spent the past six seasons on Furman's staff and has been interim coach since Niko Medved left to take the Drake job last month. Richey helped Forman capture its first Southern Conference regular-season championship in 21 years.

Richey has worked with Furman's guards since joining the staff in 2011-12. He recruited the developed the league's past two players of the year in guard Stephen Croone in 2016 and Devin Sibley this past year.

Richey previously coached at Charleston Southern before arriving at Furman.
