Fordham downs UMass 76-66 with big first-half run

NEW YORK (AP) Joseph Chartouny scored 16 points with eight assists, Fordham shot 10 of 24 from long distance and the Rams broke the game open early to beat UMass 77-66 Wednesday night.

Fordham, which beat UMass 78-72 in overtime on Jan. 30, has defeated an Atlantic 10 Conference foe twice in the regular season for the first time since 2007.

UMass led 16-7, but Fordham hit five straight 3-pointers amid a 32-2 run and led 40-25 at halftime. Nemanja Zarkovic hit three 3s in the spurt and finished with 11 for Fordham (13-11, 4-9), which ended a three-game skid.

Jon Severe scored 13, Christian Sengfelder added 11 and Ryan Rhoomes had 10 with 13 rebounds for Fordham.

UMass trimmed the deficit to seven on Donte Clark's 3-pointer with 17:23 left in the second half, but got no closer than nine the rest of the way.

Trey Davis scored 20 points and grabbed a career-high 10 rebounds for UMass (11-14, 4-9).
