Fairfield holds off Marist for 78-74 victory

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) Maurice Barrow and Marcus Gilbert scored 22 points apiece, combining to go 11 of 18 from 3-point range, as Fairfield held off a second-half rally to beat Marist 78-74 Friday night.

Fairfield (7-24, 4-16 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) led 40-25 at halftime and, after back-to-back 3s by Barrow, extended its lead to 19 with 17:48 to play.

Adam Kemp scored five points during a 12-3 Marist run that trimmed its deficit to 51-41 about 4 minutes later.

Phillip Lawrence made a layup with 49 seconds to play, pulling the Red Foxes within 73-69 but they would get no closer as Barrow and Gilbert combined to go 5 of 8 from the free throw line in the final 31 seconds to seal the victory.

The Stags tied a season high by making 12 3-pointers.

Adam Kemp paced Marist (11-18, 8-11) with 20 points and a career-high 19 rebounds.
