Evans scores 18 as IPFW holds off Jacksonville 71-63

GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) Mo Evans scored 18 points with four 3-pointers to lead balanced IPFW past Jacksonville 71-63 in the Spartan Showcase on Friday.

Evans shot 7-for-13 from the field, 4-for-9 from deep for the Mastodons (4-1), and Max Landis added three 3-pointers for 16 points, although it was his free-throw shooting down the stretch kept Jacksonville at bay.

Darius Dawkins scored a career-high 25 points - with seven 3-pointers - to lead the Dolphins (2-2). In a game that saw each team launch 29 3-pointers, Dawkins opened with a 3 and Jacksonville claimed an early 11-4 lead.

Dawkins hit a 3-pointer to bring the Dolphins to 66-63 with 1:59 remaining, but Jacksonville committed one turnover, four fouls and missed twice from 3-point range in the final two minutes. Thirteen of Jacksonville's 22 field goals were 3s.

Landis went 3-for-4 from the line in the last 44 seconds.
