Mike Smith scored 22 points and eclipsed 1,500 points for his career, leading East Tennessee State to a 67-52 win over South Carolina-Upstate on Tuesday night to split the season series.
Adam Sollazzo added 18 points for the Buccaneers (14-8, 9-2 Atlantic Sun Conference), who were coming off a 72-62 loss to Belmont on Sunday that snapped their nine-game winning streak.
The Spartans (2-18, 1-9) have not won a game since beating ETSU 60-59 on Dec. 5 for a 2-6 record.
USC Upstate had an early five-point lead, but the Buccaneers rallied to lead 31-24 at the half.
The Spartans pulled within six twice, the last time at 55-49 with 3:36 left, but could get no closer.
The Buccaneers shot 45.7 percent (21 of 46) while USC Upstate shot just 31 percent (18 of 58), including 4 of 24 on 3-pointers.
Torrey Craig and Carter Cook scored 11 apiece for USC Upstate.
