Esho scores 20, UMass beats Canisius 75-58

AMHERST, Mass. (AP) Maxie Esho had 20 points and nine rebounds on Saturday, and Massachusetts ended a three-game losing streak with a 75-58 victory over Canisius.

UMass (6-4) led by 15 with four minutes to go in the first half and the made its last six shots before the break to go up 46-21.

Adam Weir capped a 12-1 run on a 3-pointer with 11:41 to go that pulled Canisius (4-4) within 55-41, but the Griffins never got within single digits.

Cady Lalanne had 16 points and eight rebounds, and Derrick Gordon added 11 points, eight rebounds and five assists for UMass.

Zach Lewis had three 3-pointers with 13 points to lead Canisius and Josiah Heath added 10 points and three steals.

Lewis made a jumper to cut the Minutemen lead to 64-53 with 5:03 to go, but UMass rattled off nine straight to seal the win.
