Monty Sanders scored a career-high 21 points to help Elon hold off Wofford 62-55 on Friday night in the first round of the Southern Conference tournament. Sanders, a senior forward, hit a 3-pointer from the left wing with 1:30 to go and got two offensive rebounds following missed free throws in the final minute. Brett James added 19 points for the Phoenix (11-19), who advanced to the quarterfinals against Chattanooga on Saturday night. Noah Dahlman led the Terriers (16-14) with 18 points and Junior Salters scored 11. Elon led 17-2 before the Terriers settled down. Wofford shot 9-for-26 in the first half to trail 34-22 at the break. With Elon ahead by 15 early in the second half, the Terriers closed the gap to 43-39 with 9:17 left on a 3-pointer by Brad Loesing. They pulled within 47-45 with 5:19 remaining, but could get no closer.
