Eastern Michigan dispatches Coppin State 73-62

BALTIMORE (AP) Freshman James Thompson IV notched his seventh-consecutive double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds to lead Eastern Michigan past Coppin State 73-62 on Monday night.

The last EMU player to complete seven-straight double-doubles was George ''Ice Man'' Gervin who had 11 straight during the 1971-72 season. Thompson entered the game averaging 14.7 points and 11.8 rebounds.

Willie Mangum IV scored 15 points and Tim Bond added 14 for Eastern Michigan (7-4).

Terry Harris' 3-pointer put Coppin State up 48-44 with 16:47 to play in the game. Mangum countered with a 3, and after Keith Shivers' free throw, Bond hit a jumper to tie the score. Mangum followed with a jumper to give Eastern Michigan the lead for good at 51-49 with 12:32 left.

Christian Kessee led Coppin State (2-11) with 18 points, Harris had 15 and James Sylvester chipped in 14.
