E. Carolina coach McCarthy leaving post

East Carolina men’s basketball coach Mack McCarthy will move
into an administrative position.
According to sources close to the situation, McCarthy
informed his players after Saturday night’s loss to Southern
Mississippi that he will move into an administrative role.
McCarthy, 57, took over for Ricky Stokes three years ago
after spending three seasons as associate head coach and has gone
34-58 in his three years at the helm.
McCarthy went 11-19 in his first season, 13-19 in 2008-09 and
10-20 this season and 4-12 in Conference USA.
East Carolina didn’t finish higher than ninth in the
league in his tenure.
McCarthy’s resume is lengthy. He was successful in a
long stint at UT-Chattanooga, going 243-122 in a dozen seasons and
also spending four years as the head coach at VCU, where he was
66-55.
