Duquesne 77, Tennessee Tech 67
Sean Johnson scored 25 points and B.J. Monteiro added 18 as Duquesne defeated Tennessee Tech 77-67 Saturday night in a nonconference game.
Johnson, who came in averaging 16.9 points for the Dukes (5-3), scored eight points during an 18-5 Duquesne run in the opening 4:39 of the second half that widened a 32-28 halftime lead to 50-33. The junior guard made 8 of 12 shots and was 7 of 7 from the free-throw line.
Monteiro, a senior swingman, scored 14 of his points in the first half, in which Duquesne never trailed after opening a 7-0 lead. After the Golden Eagles (3-4) rallied for a 14-14 tie with 11:22 remaining, Monteiro scored the next four points.
Duquesne shot 50 percent (13 of 26) in each half.
Kevin Murphy, who came into the game averaging 19.5 points, led Tennessee Tech with 18, while Jud Dillard and Zach Bailey added 14 apiece.
