Duke's Irving could return next season
Duke freshman star Kyrie Irving, who sat out most of the season with an injured toe but returned in spectacular fashion last weekend for the NCAA tournament, left open the possibility of a return for his sophomore year in a radio interview Wednesday.
Irving is projected to be picked as high as No. 1 overall in June's NBA Draft, but he still has three years of college eligibility remaining.
"Right now, there is no reason I wouldn't come back for my sophomore year," Irving said on "The Dan Patrick Show."
"Honestly, I'm not sure right now," he added moments later, noting that any decisions would be made after the NCAA Tournament.
Another factor in the New Jersey native's decision could be the NBA's looming labor conflict, which like the NFL could result in a lockout that mars the 2011-12 season.
The point guard, who turned 19 on Wednesday, scored 11 points including a key basket down the stretch to help Duke escape with a 73-71 win over Michigan in the third round on Sunday. Irving led the team with 14 points in Duke's tournament-opening romp against Hampton two days earlier.
The defending national champion Blue Devils take on Arizona Thursday night in the Sweet 16 in Anaheim, Calif.
Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski said Tuesday that Irving will continue to come off the bench, but will see "significant minutes."
