Chris Fouch scored 18 of his 23 points in the second half and Drexel withstood a late comeback bid to defeat Loyola (Md) 75-72 in the season opener for both schools Friday night.

Samme Givens added 12 points and 12 rebounds for the Dragons, getting 10 of his points in the first half when Drexel built a 30-12 lead with 8:59 remaining.

Drexel, of the Colonial Athletic Association, led 68-58 with 1:10 remaining before the Greyhounds made a furious run. Brian Rudolph's 3-pointer cut it to 74-72 with 3 seconds left.

Fouch then was fouled by Eric Etherly and made 1 of 2 to secure the victory. He made 6 of 10 free throws in the final 1:01.

Jamal Barney scored 21 points to pace Loyola. J'hared Hall added 12 points and Robert Olson 11 for the Greyhounds of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.
