Dimakopoulos leads UC Irvine to 72-65 win over Pacific

IRVINE, Calif. (AP) Ioannis Dimakopoulos scored a career-high 19 points on 9-of-13 shooting, freshman Tommy Rutherford scored a season-high 11 and UC Irvine beat Pacific 72-65 on Saturday night.

Spencer Rivers, son of longtime NBA player and current coach of the Los Angeles Clippers Doc Rivers, added a career-high 10 points on 4-of-5 shooting.

Pacific (1-2) trailed by 11 with 14:15 to play but Jack Williams scored eight points - including two 3-pointers - during a 15-4 run that tied it at 50-all with 8:49 remaining. Dimakopoulos made back-to-back layups to start a 10-3 run, capped by Brandon Smith's 3-pointer that made it 60-53. After Jacob Lampkin's two free throws pulled the Tigers within three, Dimakopoulos scored six UCI points in a row before two free throws by Rutherford made it 68-59 with 1:09 to go.

Jack Williams hit four 3-pointers and finished with 17 points, both career highs, for Pacific.

Irvine (2-2) made 27 of 53 (50.9 percent) from the field.
