NEWARK, Del. — Delaware has fired men's basketball coach Monte Ross after the Blue Hens finished their second consecutive losing season with a 7-23 record.

The school issued a statement Friday saying it was parting ways with Ross immediately. Acting athletic director Matthew Robinson thanked Ross for his service but said the university needs to start a new chapter with the men's basketball program.

The school said that once a new athletic director is named, it will undertake the search for a new coach.

Ross, a former assistant at Drexel and St. Joseph's, spent 10 seasons at Delaware, finishing with 132-184 record.

In 2013-14, Ross won coach-of-the-year honors after leading the Blue Hens to a 25-10 record, the Colonial Athletic Association title and a berth in the NCAA Tournament.
