Cressler, Cornell hold off Dartmouth for 70-67 win
ITHACA, N.Y. (AP) Nolan Cressler scored 17 points as Cornell earned its first victory over a Div. I program this season, beating Dartmouth 70-67 Friday night.
Jake Matthews hit a pair of free throws to give Cornell (2-19, 1-6 Ivy League) a 51-36 lead, its biggest of the game, with 11:55 remaining. Dartmouth took a one-point lead with 7 minutes to play when Kevin Crescenzi's jumper capped a 16-0 run, which included four 3-pointers -including three by Alex Mitola.
A 6-0 run by the Big Red made it 64-59 with 43 seconds to play but Dartmouth (9-12, 2-5) scored eight of the next 11 points to tie the game at 67 with 9 seconds left.
Devin Cherry hit 1 of 2 free throws a couple seconds later, giving Cornell a one-point lead, before a Dwight Tarwater steal and pair of free throws sealed the victory.
Tyler Melville paced Dartmouth with 14 points.
