Dyami Starks and Brian Barbour scored 15 and 10 points in the second half, respectively, and Columbia defeated American University 64-62 on Sunday.

The Lions (3-3) trailed 54-45 with 4:41 left to play, and made 6 of 7 from the field during a 15-6 run over the next 3:54.

Down 60-59, Columbia got a 3 from Starks with 42 seconds left to go up by two. Daniel Munoz then hit two free throws for American to tie it, 62-62, with 32 seconds remaining.

Starks missed a go-ahead 3-pointer with 3 seconds to play, but Van Green grabbed the offensive rebound, was fouled and made both his free throws to hand American its first loss of the season.

Starks finished with 20 points and Barbour 12. The Lions scored 20 points off 15 turnovers and scored 23 second-chance points.

The Eagles were led by Stephen Lumpkins with 20 points and 12 rebounds. Troy Brewer added 18 points for American.
