Jeremy Simmons scored 22 points to lead five players in double-figures as College of Charleston spoiled Holy Cross' season opener with a 93-84 victory Saturday.

Both sides shot well, but the Cougars (1-1) got the better of it, making 63.6 percent of their field-goal attempts (35 of 55), while Holy Cross made 33 of 64, or 51.6 percent. The Cougars even made 9 of 16 on their 3-point attempts.

Charleston bounced back from Wednesday's loss at Maryland with significant contributions from Willis Hall (20 points), Andrew Goudelock (18), Trent Wiedeman (13) and Donavan Monroe (10). The Cougars' biggest lead, 68-48, came with 13:39 left on Monroe's 3-pointer. The closest the Crusaders came was the final nine-point margin, achieved twice in the game's final minute.

Mike Cavataio and R.J. Evans each had 16 points to lead the Crusaders. Andrew Keister added 15 points, with 10 rebounds.
