NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) Team benches will remain on the baselines at Vanderbilt's Memorial Gym, though coaches will be free to roam down the sidelines starting next season.

Vanderbilt announced Tuesday that the NCAA has mandated the coaching boxes will be stretched down one sideline starting with the 2015-16 season.

Head coaches currently are restricted to the space in front of their benches, forcing them to yell at their players half of the game. Starting next season, only head coaches will be allowed to walk up the sideline near the scorer's table so they can be closer to their players.

Benches have been on the baselines of the elevated floor at Memorial since the first game was played in the old gym in December 1952.
