Coach K fine after dizzy spell during loss to Wake Forest
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski missed his postgame news conference after Wednesday night's loss to Wake Forest because he was feeling light-headed.
Associate head coach Steve Wojciechowski stepped in for Coach K after the fourth-ranked Blue Devils' 82-72 loss to Wake Forest.
Duke released this statement early Thursday morning: "Coach Krzyzewski experienced light-headedness during and after the Duke-Wake Forest game on Wednesday night. Following the contest, he was examined by Duke medical personnel on site and again at Duke University Hospital for precautionary tests upon returning to Durham. His symptoms and condition have improved considerably, and Coach Krzyzewski was sent home during the early morning hours on Thursday.”
During a timeout late in the game, Krzyzewski took a knee, and Wojciechowski says that was because the Hall of Fame coach was feeling dizzy and light-headed.
Wojciechowski says the team medical staff advised Krzyzewski to remain in the locker room instead of speaking to reporters after the game.
Wojciechowski says Krzyzewski has not been sick, has been in good shape and says "maybe the emotion got the better of him."
