Trevon Harmon scored 20 points and Norris Cole added 19 as Cleveland State defeated Sam Houston State 74-62 on Saturday to become the first NCAA Division I school to reach 12-0 this season.

Cole, a first-team Horizon League selection last season, also had seven assists for the Vikings, who are off to their best start in school history.

Gilberto Clavell led the Bearkats (5-3) with 21 points and Marcus Williams added 12 points.

Sam Houston State took an early six-point lead, but Cleveland State shot 54 percent (15 of 28) in the first half to build a 44-31 advantage by intermission. The Vikings stretched the lead to 70-54 with 5:06 remaining and, despite not scoring a basket the rest of the way, held off the Bearkats with free throws and defense down the stretch.
