Carter leads Nebraska-Omaha to 77-58 win over W. Illinois

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) CJ Carter scored 17 of his 20 points in the second half to lead Nebraska-Omaha to a dominating 77-58 win over Western Illinois on Saturday.

Devin Patterson had 13 points and Mike Rostampour added 12 for Nebraska-Omaha (9-16, 3-10 Summit League), which had lost five straight.

The Mavericks held a 29-25 halftime advantage but came out strong in the second period. Jake White nailed a 3-point jumper, Randy Reed made a layup, Kyler Erickson followed with a three-point play and Carter slipped in for a layup as the Mavericks ran to a 56-40 lead midway in the second half. Western Illinois never challenged after that.

The Leathernecks (8-15, 3-9) were without two starters. Mike Miklusak was out with an injured knee and Tate Stensgaard with a wrist injury.

J.C. Fuller had 19 points, Garret Covington added 15 and Dalan Ancrum chipped in 12 for Western Illinois.
