Canisius rode Harold Washington's hot shooting to a 72-69 victory over St. Bonaventure on Saturday.
Canisius went ahead at 68-67 with 53 seconds left in the game on Chris Manhertz's tip-in, and held on for the victory.
Washington scored 23 points, hitting 7 of 14 from the field, 3 of 3 from 3-point range and 6 of 8 free throws for the Golden Griffins (2-0). Isaac Sosa chipped in 14 points.
Canisius dominated St. Bonaventure (2-1) at the foul line, knocking down 18 of 21 to the Bonnies' 8 of 10.
Chris Johnson scored 19 points for the Bonnies, while Demetrius Conger had 14 and Eric Mosley 13.
The teams traded the lead in the first half, with Bonnies up 37-32 at the break. The Bonnies led 49-42 on Mosley's 3-pointer 5:59 into the second half and led 65-59 with 6:23 remaining.
