Campbell rallies after halftime, tops Coastal Carolina 79-73

BUIES CREEK, N.C. (AP) D.J. Mason scored 17 points and collared a career-high 14 rebounds as Cambell rallied after halftime to defeat Coastal Carolina 79-73 in the Big South Conference opener for both teams on Saturday.

Campbell (2-2, 1-0) trailed by 10 early in the second half, but slowly worked into a 57-57 tie on a Mason layup with 9:46 to play.

Shivaughn Wiggins led defending Big South champion Coastal Carolina (3-3, 0-1) with a career-high 24 points and converted a 3-point play with 5:34 left to give the Chanticleers a final lead. But Mason shot Campbell into a tie, 64-64, and Chris Clemons put the Fightin' Camels ahead for keeps with a 3-pointer.

Clemons hit four treys and finished with 16 points, Kyre' Hamer added 14 and Curtis Phillips 11 with five assists

Campbell had lost to the two-time defending Big South champs twice by 3 points in each of the last two seasons.
