Campbell cruises past Montreat 87-42

BUIES CREEK, N.C. (AP) Kyre' Hamer scored 21 points, Chris Clemons hit 5 of 6 3-pointers for 19 and Campbell cruised past Montreat College 87-42 Friday night in a season opener for both teams.

Curtis Phillips scored 14 points on 6 of 10 shooting and D.J. Mason grabbed 10 rebounds and had five assists for the Camels, who out-rebounded their NAIA opponents 48-39.

Campbell led 25-2 after Clemons hit three straight 3-pointers en route to scoring 16 points in the first half. The Camels hit 9 of 18 3-pointers in the half and pulled to a 54-19 halftime lead, shooting 57.6 percent from the field to the Cavaliers' 18.5 percent.

Mason and Troy Harper each hit 3-pointers to open the second half and the Camels continued to pull away.

Amir Davis scored 11 for Montreat and Frank Swift added 10. Ryan Bethoney and Caleb Highly each grabbed seven rebounds.
