Cal's Jorge Gutierrez takes 2 top Pac-12 honors
California senior Jorge Gutierrez has pulled off an impressive Pac-12 double: He was named conference Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year on Monday, as chosen by the league's coaches.
Gutierrez, with his remarkable journey of leaving Chihuahua, Mexico, as a teen to play basketball in Denver, averages 12.9 points and 5.3 rebounds.
Washington guard Tony Wroten earned Freshman of the Year honors, Washington State junior forward Brock Motum was named Most Improved Player of the Year and Washington's Lorenzo Romar is Coach of the Year.
Cal's Allen Crabbe joined Gutierrez, Motum and Wroten on the Pac-12 first team, along with Oregon State's Jared Cunningham, Arizona's Kyle Fogg and Solomon Hill, Oregon's Devoe Joseph, Andre Roberson of conference newcomer Colorado and Terrence Ross of Washington.
