California sophomore center Kameron Rooks is likely out for all of next season after having surgery to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.

Golden Bears coach Cuonzo Martin said in a statement Thursday that the injury is ''very unfortunate.'' He says it's difficult to predict when Rooks will return, though typical recovery time can take up to a year.

The 7-foot Rooks averaged 1.6 rebounds and 1.3 points in seven minutes as a freshman. He played in all but two of Cal's first 28 games before missing the final seven contests with a stress reaction in his left foot.

Martin says Rooks will start his rehabilitation program immediately.
