BYU basketball coach Dave Rose has received a five-year extension to keep him at the head of the program through the 2019-20 season.

Athletic director Tom Holmoe announced the deal Monday.

Rose is in his 10th season, has gone 250-86 and has taken the Cougars to seven NCAA tournaments. He also took the team to two NITs.

BYU guard Jimmer Fredette was named the Player of the Year in 2011.

''He is an incredible leader and one of the best coaches in the country," Holmoe said. "... We are excited about the future of the basketball program.''

The Cougars (18-8) host Saint Mary's on Thursday.
