Buchanan has 24 points, 15 rebounds in SC Upstate win

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) Michael Buchanan scored a season-high 24 points and pulled down a career-best 15 rebounds to lead South Carolina Upstate to a 71-65 victory over Colgate on Sunday.

Buchanan posted his fourth double-double this season. Mike Cunningham added 20 points for the Spartans (5-5), who finished 2-1 in the Holy City Hoops Classic hosted by The Citadel.

Jordan Swopshire scored 16 points and Sean O'Brien scored all 12 of his points on 3s for the Red Raiders (2-7), who went 0-3 in the weekend event, their three losses coming by a combined 16 points.

Trailing 38-29, the Spartans outscored Colgate 20-10 to start the second half, capped by Ramel Thompkins' dunk that put them up for good, 49-48, with 10:55 left.

Tom Rivard's bucket got Colgate within 67-63 with 15 seconds left but Cunningham and Buchanan each made two free throws.
