Brown pulls away to 71-55 win over Holy Cross

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) JR Hobbie scored 16 points, Cedric Kuakumensah had 14 and Brown shot nearly 52 percent on its way to a 71-55 win over Holy Cross on Monday.

Two free throws from Anthony Thompson pulled Holy Cross within 4 points with 7:15 remaining, but the Crusaders missed their last eight shots and could only muster 1 point the rest of the way.

Hobbie made 5 of 8 shots - all 3-point attempts - including back-to-back makes to give Brown (1-1) an 11-point advantage with 4:13 to play.

Corey Daugherty had 13 points and combined with Hobbie to score 20 of Brown's 36 second-half points. Both players came off the bench.

Holy Cross (1-1) made 18 of 22 free throws. Cullen Hamilton led with 18 points on 6-of-11 shooting, and Karl Charles and Robert Champion both added 12 points.
