Brown hold off Providence for 77-67 win

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) Leland King scored 16 points to help Brown beat Providence 77-67 on Monday night.

Steven Spieth and Cedric Kuakumensah scored 15 apiece, JR Hobbie added 13 - including four 3-pointers - and Tavon Blackmon had 11 and seven assists for Brown (5-6).

Jalen Lindsey hit a pair of 3-pointers, sandwiched around two free throws from Brown's Rafael Maia, to pull Providence (6-3) within 52-51 with 5:57 left, but Hobbie hit back-to-back 3's and King made a layup to give Brown a 60-53 lead with 4:44 remaining.

LaDontae Henton hit a 3-pointer 15 seconds later, pulling the Friars within four, but Spieth scored five points during a 7-0 run to make it 67-56 with 1:38 to play.

Spieth and Blackmon combined to make 10 of 10 free throws from there to seal it.

Henton and Kris Dunn scored 16 apiece for Providence, but were a combined 12-of-31 shooting.
