D.J. Irving scored 23 points and Malik Thomas came off the bench to score all 17 of his points in the second half to lead Boston University to a 70-57 victory over Cornell in a nonconference game Saturday.

Thomas made all five of his 3-point attempts and also hit a pair of free throws for the Terriers (5-6), who have won five of their last six games after losing their first five.

Irving scored three baskets in a row for the Terriers that put them ahead to stay, 48-46 with 8:09 remaining. He made 7 of 10 shots overall.

Boston University shot 52.4 percent (11 of 21) in the second half, while the Big Red (4-9) managed 37.0 percent (10 of 27), including 2 of 13 on 3-pointers.

Devin Cherry led Cornell with 16 points, while Errick Peck added 12 and Dwight Tarwater 11.
