Matt Griffin scored 21 points, knocking down five 3-pointers, and Boston University used solid defense in the second half to cruise to an easy 58-37 win over Marist on Friday night.
Griffin made all seven of his field goal attempts and his two free throws for the Terriers (2-2), who took control in the second half after the Red Fox (0-3) had a 28-27 lead with 14:04 left.
BU held Marist to only one point for almost 10 minutes, surging to a 50-29 advantage that was capped by Griffin's jumper. Griffin was the only double-digit scorer for the Terriers, but Patrick Hazel pitched in with 13 rebounds and four blocked shots.
Candon Rusin scored 16 points for Marist, which has lost its first three games by an average of 25 points.
BU shot 37.7 percent (20 of 53) from the field but held Marist to a worse percentage with 26.7 percent (12 of 45).
