Bethune Cookman beats North Carolina A&T 72-71

GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) Travis Elliott made a free throw with 8 seconds remaining to give Bethune-Cookman a 72-71 victory over North Carolina A&T Monday night.

A potential game-winner by North Carolina A&T's Lamont Middleton rimmed out at the buzzer.

Malik Jackson and Clemmye Owens had 16 points apiece to lead Bethune-Cookman (6-21, 4-8 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference), which ended a 22-game road losing streak.

The Wildcats led 68-60 with 3:38 remaining when Richaud Pack made two free throws and then nailed a 3-pointer and Waylan Siverand made a layup to cut the lead to 68-66 with 1:51 left. The Wildcats increased the lead to 71-66 but Pack hit another 3-pointer and Middelton made two free throws to tie at 71 with 10 seconds left. Elliott missed the first free throw but made the second for the win.

Pack had 28 points and Middleton added 21 for North Carolina A&T (8-17, 4-6).
