C.J. Reed scored 22 points to lead Bethune-Cookman to a 52-47 win over Maryland-Eastern Shore on Wednesday in the first round of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference tournament. The eighth-seeded Wildcats (17-15) advanced to play third-seeded Norfolk State on Thursday. Despite shooting just 33.3 percent for the game (15 of 45), the Wildcats assured their first winning record since moving to Division I in 1989. The Hawks were even worse from the floor, shooting just 29.5 percent (13 of 44). Reed made a short jumper with 1:18 left in the second half to give the Wildcats a 48-45 lead, and he later hit two free throws for a five-point advantage that sealed the win. Chris Conner led the Hawks (7-23) with 13 points, while Neal Pitt scored 12 points and had 10 rebounds. The Wildcats beat the Hawks for the third time this season.
