Florida Gulf Coast University has fired coach Dave Balza after nine seasons with the program.
Balza, who guided the Eagles through the transition from Division II to Division I, is the only coach in program history. In nine seasons, Balza went 153-121, but just 39-82 in four seasons in Division I. This season, the Eagles won four of their last five Atlantic Sun Conference games to finish 10-20 overall.
Athletic director Ken Kavanagh and Balza confirmed the firing on Thursday.
Balza has one year left on a contract that will pay him $105,000, and he will have an opportunity to stay at the school in a different role.
