Randy Davis scored 24 points to lead Ball State to a 70-60 win over Toledo on Saturday night, earning its seventh straight victory.
The Cardinals (13-4, 5-0 Mid-American Conference) are off to their best start since opening the 1997-98 season 16-3.
Davis made only four field goals for Ball State, but did most of his damage at the free-throw line - making all 14 of his attempts. He also dished out seven assists.
The Rockets (4-15, 1-4) led 27-26 at halftime, but played from behind the entire second half after Jarrod Jones' jumper gave the Cardinals a one-point lead 18 seconds into the half.
Ball State shot 83.9 percent from the free-throw line (23 of 27) in the second and stretched its lead to 63-50 with 2:39 to go.
Malcolm Griffin led Toledo with 25 points. Reese Holliday added 13 points and 11 rebounds.
Jauwan Scaife scored 13 and Jones 12 for the Cardinals.
